About Kerry-Lynne Findlay

Born on Vancouver Island. Practiced law for 30 years. Served in the Harper Cabinet. First woman to serve as Conservative Chief Opposition Whip. Now running to keep BC's Conservative Party conservative.

Vancouver Island Roots

Kerry-Lynne Findlay was born on January 12, 1955 in Ladysmith, British Columbia. She grew up on Vancouver Island, one of six kids in a working-class family. Her father was a self-employed electrician. Nobody handed her anything.

Her brother Greg played linebacker for the BC Lions. That same competitive fire runs through Kerry-Lynne, except she took it to courtrooms and Parliament instead of the football field.

A Career in Law

She earned her Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from the University of British Columbia in 1975, then her law degree from UBC in 1978. After articling in Vancouver, she practiced at several firms before opening her own practice in 1981.

Over 30 years of legal practice, Kerry-Lynne built a reputation that mattered. She chaired the Constitutional Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association at both the national and provincial levels. In 1999, the Attorney General of British Columbia appointed her Queen's Counsel, a recognition reserved for lawyers who've demonstrated exceptional merit.

From 2006 to 2011, she served as a Member of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, appointed by the Federal Minister of Justice. Five years adjudicating cases on discrimination, equality, and fundamental rights. That kind of work sharpens your understanding of what's at stake when governments overreach.

Serving Canada in Ottawa

Kerry-Lynne first ran for federal office in 2000 as a Canadian Alliance candidate in Vancouver Quadra. She didn't win, but she came back. In 2011, she won the riding of Delta-Richmond East with over 54% of the vote.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper put her to work immediately. She served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice, then as Associate Minister of National Defence, then as Minister of National Revenue, where she oversaw the Canada Revenue Agency and fought to protect taxpayers. Three different portfolios in four years, each one with real operational weight behind it.

She returned to Parliament in 2019, winning South Surrey-White Rock. She was re-elected in 2021, proving she could hold a tough riding through a volatile political cycle. In September 2022, Pierre Poilievre named her Chief Opposition Whip, making her the first woman in Canadian history to serve in that role for the Conservatives.

Poilievre chose Kerry-Lynne because he needed someone he could trust to represent BC, hold the caucus together, and get things done. That says more about her character than any endorsement could.

Giving Back to BC

Between elections and courtrooms, Kerry-Lynne has put in the hours where it counts. She chaired the Vancouver City Planning Commission, sat on the board of Science World, and held leadership roles with the Junior Leagues of Canada and the Chinese Benevolent Association.

In 2016, her Alpha Gamma Delta fraternity chapter named her a Distinguished Citizen, recognizing a lifetime of community service alongside professional achievement.

Family

Kerry-Lynne is the mother of four children and grandmother to nine. She knows what it feels like to worry about the cost of groceries, the quality of your kid's school, and whether the province your grandkids are growing up in will still be a place where hard work pays off.

Why She's Running

In January 2026, after John Rustad stepped down, Kerry-Lynne launched her campaign for Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia. Her pitch is simple: the NDP has crushed this province with taxes, ideology, and overreach. And now BC Liberal insiders want to take over the Conservative Party and push the same hidden liberal agenda they've always had.

Kerry-Lynne isn't interested in letting that happen. She's running to keep this party conservative, to defeat the NDP, and to give British Columbia a Premier who actually means it when she says she'll put freedom, families, and common sense first.
